Ohio
State has added the 13th member to its 2011
recruiting class, with the decision of
Vernon Hills (ILL) wide receiver Evan
Spencer to become a Buckeye.
As the
son of former Buckeye Tim Spencer, it had
long been speculated that Evan would become
a Buckeye, and he spoke of the connection
with his family.
"My dad playing there played a part, but
this was the best decision for me," Spencer
said. "I felt like I fit in there best, and
I think I can help them out with my
strengths."
Spencer admitted he was impressed by the
commitment of super quarterback Braxton
Miller to Ohio State earlier this week, but
that did not influence his decision.
"I also saw where Braxton Miller had
committed on Thursday, and I was glad to see
that, even though I had made my decision a
few weeks ago," he admitted. "I wanted to
wait to make my decision public, to be 100%
certain."
As a junior at Vernon Hills, Spencer led his
team in both receiving and interceptions,
but he stated he is being recruited as a
wide receiver by Ohio State.
Spencer
chose Ohio State over Illinois, Iowa,
Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Notre
Dame, Oregon, Purdue and Wisconsin.
